Update on stimulus funding
At Wednesday’s bond committee meeting, Surprise City Manager Randy Oliver confirmed two Surprise-related projects that will be funded by federal stimulus money:
• The widening of Grand Avenue, from 83rd Avenue to Loop 303. It’s a 12 1/2-mile stretch.
• The widening of I-10, from Dysart Road to Verrado Way. The project would intersect with Loop 303.
With a smaller staff, the city faces the challenge of compiling a plan on the Grand Avenue project to send to the Arizona Department of Transportation. This has to be done before the project is put under contract on June 30.
The city also is working to compile recommendations on how to improve the aesthetics on the state road. Oliver said taking this step could potentially save time and money later.
