Leadership
I support the idea of going back to a two-year term for mayor. Even more so, we should consider implementing a policy of term limits for both mayor and council members. This could eliminate some of the shenanigans forced upon the citizen’s of Surprise by some of our current leaders.
People can get too comfortable with their positions and become complacent or as we have seen lately, power-hungry. This serves no one well and often causes great conflict with the citizen’s. When the mayor and some of the council members are not calling the voters names, they are feuding among themselves. It is up to the voters to correct this unnecessary occurrence.
Donna Weekley
Leadership is lacking in the development of the City of Surprise. This leadership must come from our elected officials.
If they are full time, why is staff and city cars used to deliver their packets or agenda,s to their homes?
Being an election year for a mayor and three council members the citizens of Surprise, unless their happy with what they have, should form a committee to interview candidates that they think are qualified and can support. It is crucial that we have qualified candidates. We might suggest in the future that we go back to a two-year term for the mayor, that way if he or she was not doing a good job there would be no need for a recall nor would we have to wait four-years.
