Surprise, Arizona

City employee’s, fear not the economy, fear the reorganizational plans that the Interim City Manager and the City Council have in store for you.

With our 9.5% sales tax, this is bad news, Survey of AZ food prices sees rise

PHOENIX - Food prices in Arizona are going up.

I see we have a poker parlor in town that’s open from 7pm till 5am and understand another will open at Bell & Brookshire, the City of Surprise will be the Wild West again, consisting of bar’s and gambling casino’s.

It is my view that because Mayor Lyn Truitt and the City Council have no vision for the City of Surprise, they have given the city to Mark Coronado their Interim City Manager.

I see that the City of Surprise lets ICMA use the city’s logo, Peoria and Glendale does not.

I can’t make it any clearer, if staff wants to work 4 days, great, pay them for 8 hr.s a day = 32 hours.

Is there a law on the books that they have to work 40 hours a week? At 32 hours they would still receive all of their benefits.

The only hang up that I have, is why should staff and council members have, or receive all of the benefits, that the city has to offer. Lets balance it out between the city, staff and the council members.

In my view we need big time thinkers with no limit on imagination, going after the big money, like Science Foundation Arizona using a $50 million grant money to attract over $150 million from industry and government.

Mayor Lyn Truitt doesn’t know where we stand on the $2.5 million grant money available to us (be real), using the figures above; $5 million could conceivably bring in another $15 million from industry.

Until we stop our Head honchos from applying for jobs in different cities and their effort spent in having a 4-day workday, this will never happen.

I wish the city would find a way to keep the large bottom lobby at the city hall open for the three day week-end, where us old timers could go where it’s nice and cool, we might be able to have games and meet our neighbors.

The council members could hold their discussions with their constituents there, as it’s a lot cooler then where they are having them now.
