Recruitment for City Manager pushed until 2011

Surprise AZ (June 24,2010) The City of Surprise will postpone recruiting a new City Manager until January, 2011, after a City Council discussion Thursday indicated the Council would prefer to wait.

I thought no decisions could be decided in a workshop, but as I have said previously, the City of Surprises Council can do whatever they want.

We have lobbyist in Washington to achieve the goal of businesses, in cities we have staff to ensure that landowners will receive maximum value for their land.Because staff has maximum influence on how city councils vote, wanting usage or zone changes, owners are using staff more often then attorneys specializing in land development. Staff’s success rate is almost 100%.

Having staff present the change before the planning and zoning board and the council almost ensures the passage of any zoning or usage, whether it is good planning for the city or not.

To see if this is true or not, look to see how the City of Surprise General Plan has changed without any input from the citizens who voted for the original plan. The citizens certainly haven’t been for the higher density that we now have, most of us moved here of the rural atmosphere.

Excerpt’s from: Is Civic Duty Optional, by Bargain Citizen

In truth, most Americans are either too busy, distracted, trusting or just too ignorant to get involved.

Perhaps our citizenry lacks a proper understanding of government. Its natural tendency is to grow. Unabated, it can only become bloated, growing to suit itself. Once any form of government becomes un-tethered from the bounds established to limit and restrain it, it simply creates its own authority.

For those who are engaged and involved in how we are to be governed, what with Washington waging a daily assault on their way of life, it becomes difficult to understand how anyone can stand idly by and watch it all happen without lifting a finger. How did we get to this place?
