Friday’s action saw six of the top eight seeds in action for Quarterfinal play. With wins by Abigail Spears and Christina McHale the touranment has an All-American semifinal for Saturday guaranteeing at least one American reaching the Finals. Top-seeded Varvara Lepchenko had no trouble defeating un-seeded Olga Puchkova (RUS) in the opening match on Court 14. All four quarterfinal matches were straight set victories. The match of the day concluded the afternoons matches as the American duo of Christina Fusano and Courtney Nagle upset the #1 seeded doubles of Jing-Jing Lu and Sheng-Nan Sun (CHN) 6-4, 7-5. Fusano and Nagle were up a break at 4-2 and serving to go up 5-2 when Lu and Sun managed to get the match even at 4-4. Fusano and Nagle broke Lu and Sun to win the match.
Play begins Saturday at 11am with top-seeded Varvara Lepchenko (USA) facing Kurumi Nara (JPN) (3) immediately followed by Abigail Spears (USA) (8) versus Christina McHale (USA) (7)
