Get ready to “rummage” at Surprise Super Fall Swap Meet
The biannual Surprise Super Outdoor Swap Meet is coming up on Saturday, November 7, at the Surprise Aquatic Center Parking Lot, offering great deals on a variety of items.
The Swap Meet, sponsored by the Surprise Senior Center Site Council, is open from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. More than 75 vendors will be on hand selling their new and used wares at great prices for all the bargain hunters.
The Aquatic Center is located at 15831 N. Bullard Avenue. Parking and admission are free. The Senior Center will also have a drop box at the Swap Meet for recycling old cell phones.

ADOT talks Grand Avenue Widening on Surprise 11
One of the state’s largest road improvement projects is underway along Grand Avenue and Surprise residents can learn more about it in the latest episode of On the Road airing on Surprise 11, and online at www.surpriseaz.com/surprise11.
Work is already underway on the widening of Grand Avenue, from 83rd Avenue to 99th Avenue, with expansion work starting within Surprise city limits after the first of the year. Widening Grand Avenue to six lanes from Sun City through Surprise north to the Loop 303 will continue through 2010 with all work complete by 2011.

This is a free class, but pre-registration is required. This semester will focus on Holiday classics. Class meets Nov. 9 & 23, Dec. 7 & 21 at Surprise Senior Center.

Consideration and action on the License Agreement with American Water for use of 1,000 square feet at the new City Hall Complex.Background: American Water approached the City to inquire about leasing space at the new City Hall complex for an extention of their services to the northwest valley. The lease would include a person in the cashiering window to process payments and some office space to allow for prompt customer service for its customers located in the northwest valley. The term of the lease correspondes with the existing lease the City has with American Water and will be available for renewal in 1 year increments. The lease fee for the current lease is $21 per square foot. When the easement expires in June of 2010, the lease can be renegotiated. Financial Impact Statement: This item has not been approved by the Mayor and Council in the FY2010 budget. Lease revenue in the amount of $1,750 per month will be recorded in general operations building rents account code 21111-191-112-31911-29999. With the downturn in the economy the Heard wishes to terminate the lease agreement August 31, 2009, 4 months early.
Due to circumstances outlined in the attached budget transfer memo, $46,500 will be required to be transferred from 21214-445-112-38999-29999. This amount anticipates that the city will operate the facility for a period of ten months.

City’s fast-track review process attracts veterans’ medical clinic
The City of Surprise has learned that the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will open a medical clinic in the city next year.
The VA medical clinic will be located within the Ancona Professional Plaza, at Grand Avenue and Mountain View Road. The VA will occupy 26,000 square feet of space on the first floor that will house ambulatory care, lab space and room for office and administrative efforts.
Surprise to welcome local 8th graders to city government
The first wave of local eighth grade students will get a taste of city work and college life as they tour Surprise City Hall, Public Safety Building and Communiversity @ Surprise in the Surprise Civic Center, Thursday, October. 15.
