) April is about the time of year that us desert dwellers begin to increase outdoor water use for gardens, landscaping and pools. Surprise reminds you that it is also a good time to think about ways we can conserve water indoors and out.

Taking shorter showers, washing full loads of laundry or dishes, and filling the bathtub up half-way are easy ways to cut down on excessive indoor water use and can help balance out the extra outdoor water that you use, as evaporation in the warmer months requires more water in the pool and on the plants.

Desert landscapes, or Xeriscapes, are great ways to reduce outdoor water use, as long as you’re not over-watering. Drought tolerant plants are happiest with little water. The city offers free water conservation classes on desert landscapes, call 623.222.7023 to find out more.
