Service’s for Mayor Joan Shafer
Will be held May 9th at 9:00 AM at the Stadium that she was instrumental in building.
Mayor Shafer’s family is arranging a private funeral service. However, the City of Surprise will conduct a Public Memorial Service in her honor on Friday, May 9, at 9 a.m. Please see attached release for details.
A public memorial service is planned for May 9, in honor of former Surprise Mayor Joan Shafer, who passed away on Monday.The public service will be held at Surprise Stadium, 15960 N. Bullard Avenue, on Friday, May 9, at 9 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Mayor Shafer’s family has requested that donations be made to DreamCatcher Park, the city’s ball field designed for athletes with special needs. Shafer considered DreamCatcher Park one of her proudest achievements during her time as mayor.
People can make the checks out to “Surprise Sundancers/DreamCatcher Park” and mail them to Community & Recreation Services, 15960 N. Bullard Avenue, Surprise, AZ 85374.
