Surprise will host celebrities in Flag Football Challenge

Past and present NFL stars and other celebrities will take the field in Surprise as part of lead-in festivities to Super Bowl XLII, city staff announced Thursday.  

Players will converge on the Surprise Recreation Campus the Saturday before the Feb. 3 Super Bowl in Glendale for the Celebrity Flag Football Challenge 2008. Halftime of the game will feature a performance by the Flutie Brothers Band with former NFL quarterback Doug Flutie on drums.

The flag game will be televised by Fox Sports Net. Other planned events are a 3K run and amateur sports tournaments. Mark Coronado, director of Surprise Community and Recreation Services, said he expects up to 20,000 people. Details: 623-222-2000.
