Surprise is Shovel-Ready for Business

SURPRISE, AZ (November 5, 2007) Companies looking to relocate, need look no further than Surprise. With “ready-to-go” sites available for sale or lease and a business-friendly permitting process, Surprise is the place to grow your business.

As a proud partner of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) “Shovel-Ready” program, Surprise is pleased to offer the most shovel-ready sites in the Valley. Sites designated by GPEC as shovel-ready are available for sale or lease immediately, zoned commercial or industrial and are ready to build with all utilities and other infrastructure in place.

“This process allows companies to speed up the construction phase and that’s very important, because in business- time is money,” says Surprise Economic Development Director John Hagen. “And all ten of the Surprise shovel-ready sites are conveniently located in close proximity to the Loop 303, U.S. 60 and the BNSF railroad, making them attractive sites for a variety of industries.”

In the spirit of promoting regional business growth, GPEC partners have also agreed to an accelerated permitting certification program that completes the municipal-level permitting process in 90 days or less.

“Surprise is ahead of the curve when it comes to issuing business permits in a timely manner, as over a year ago our city council approved a plan to revise and streamline the permitting process here,” says Hagen.

Under the GPEC program, companies must meet various criteria in order to qualify for 90-day or less permitting. For instance, projects must meet high-wage and community criteria, the companies must participate in pre-phase meetings, submit fully developed plans and maintain a pre-determined schedule.

GPEC is a public/private partnership involving Surprise, 17 other communities, Maricopa County and more than 140 private investors to promote the Greater Phoenix region to companies seeking a new location.
